SUBJECT:        Washington State’s 13th Annual
Youth Leadership Forum for High School
Students with Disabilities
Western Washington University
Bellingham, WA
July 27 – August 1, 2014

The Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment (GCDE) is inviting students with disabilities to apply to Washington State’s Thirteenth Annual Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) and we are asking for your help in recruiting students to apply.  Please note that students do not have to be receiving services to apply for this Forum.  Completed applications must be submitted and postmarked no later than (June 6, 2014).  This year, 30-40 students with disabilities will be selected to attend.

The Forum is designed for students with disabilities that are incoming high school juniors, seniors (as of July 1, 2014) and 2013 high school graduates or students still receiving transition services from their high schools, who want to be or are leaders in their schools and communities.  It is an opportunity for them to continue to learn the skills of leadership and citizenship as well as developing their personal and social skills.

The Youth Leadership Forum is a cooperative project with the state Employment Security Department, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), Liberty Mutual Insurance, NW Fisheries Science Center/NOAA, the Department of Services for the Blind, Camelot Society, New Leaf, Inc., Disability Rights Washington and other organizations and individuals.

The project is funded through donations from state agencies (above), non-profit organizations and private sector donors so we are able to offer this Forum at NO COST TO STUDENTS.

We sincerely appreciate your assistance in making certain that all interested students have an opportunity to apply to attend the Forum.
