A State dependent children in foster care, placed with relatives, suitable others or with their parents on a Trial Return Home, will continue eligibility and coverage with Medicaid under the Foster Care Medical Program. Their ProviderOne Service Card should accompany them at all placement changes. If the card is misplaced, social workers should call the Foster Care Medical Team (FCMT) at 1(800) 562-3022 Ext#15480.
Caregivers applying for TANF should notify the CSO Office that the child placed in their home by the Department has medical coverage through the Foster Care Medical Program, and there is no need to apply through the Health Benefit Exchange (HBE). If caregivers apply for medical coverage for foster children placed in their home through the HBE website, this will create confusion between the systems and the child’s Foster Care Medical coverage may be prematurely deactivated. On “Trial Return Home” placements, the social worker should call the FCMT immediately when they hear that medical service is denied due to lack of coverage.
Parents without medical coverage should proceed with applying through the HBE.
