Fostering Together is passionate about partnering with individuals who want to make a difference in the life of a foster child. Whether that means providing respite care for a foster child or donating items, there are many ways you can volunteer. Below are some suggestions to help get you started. These lists are not meant to be exhaustive as every family has different needs.

Provide Care for a Foster Child

  • In-Home or Licensed Respite
  • Receiving/Emergency Care
  • Short Term/Long Term Care
  • Foster-Adopt/Adoption

 

Donate Items and Services

  • Provide a monthly meal for a Support Group
  • Donate door prizes to Support Groups
  • Support fund raising events for foster care/adoption
  • Provide trainings for foster parents
  • Offer your building for trainings or meetings
  • Host a Foster Parent Appreciation Event
  • Provide PRO BONO work for a foster child

Assist a Foster Child

  • School (donate supplies, tutor, help with expenses)
  • Sports (sponsor for a sports team or camp, provide sports equipment, volunteer as a coach)
  • Clubs (sponsor for a membership like 4-H, Boy/Girl Scouts)
  • Clothing (provide clothing for Special Events- ie. Prom, school/sports uniforms)
  • Extra-Curricular (provide learning opportunities – ie. music, art, dance, swim)
  • Provide Comfort Bags to children coming into care

 

Volunteer with Community Partnerships

  • Be an ambassador for foster care/adoption to help raise awareness
  • Become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)
  • Volunteer at a local foster/adopt agency
  • Join a DCFS Family to Family Group as a Community Member.
  • Be a Community Member at a FTDM (Family Team Decision Meeting)

Assist a Foster Family

  • Become a Big Brother/Big Sister
  • Babysit their children for a much needed date
  • Deliver a cooked meal OR invite them over for a meal
  • Host a shower for a new foster child or when they adopt
  • Provide household help or home maintenance projects
  • Purchase Gift Cards
  • Provide a family outing or get-away
  • Sponsor a family membership
  • Provide items needed for families getting licensed
  • Ask how you can help them
